The Multi Level Marketing vs Selling Concept

Dah beberapa hari asyik terjaga pada pukul-pukul macam ni.
Lepas tu tak boleh tido and finally this is what I'm doing, blogging at 3.21am in the morning.
Kalau buat tahajud ni banyak dah pahala, tapi... ;-(

Ada sesetengah orang, bila bangun tido, secara tak sengaja dia akan recall balik apa saja benda terakhir yang masuk dalam minda dia malam tu sebelum tido.
And, I am one of this person.
Sebab tu kalau boleh saya malas nak bercakap benda negatif sebelum tido, nanti bukan je masuk dalam mimpi, siap bangun tido teringat-ingat pulak tu.
But, one of the positive side kalau baca buku sebelum tido, bangun tido tiba-tiba bole ingat balik malam tadi baca apa.

So, currently I am thinking of what I learnt in the Marketing Management class last night.
I have learnt the marketing orientation / philosophy since the Principal of Marketing subject during diploma, Strategic Marketing Management subject when I did my degree, and now in Marketing Management subject for Master's level.
I believe I have had a good understanding of the Production Concept, Product Concept, Selling Concept, Marketing Concept and Societal Marketing Concept since I learnt SMM, but the lecturer just now told us the other side of the concept that I didn't know before, especially the history of it which I find very interesting.
Now I know why I like marketing before.
I like to read and listen to stories actually, and I can get sooo many of this in marketing. hihi.

Kan da kata ada je effect sebelum tidonya.
Kan ke kelas malam tadi in English, tiba-tiba bila recall balik belajar apa pun in English.
Sama la kalau macam baca English novel, tiba-tiba bangun tido terasa nak speaking.
Entah apa punye perangai macam ni entah.

Sebenarnya malam tadi masa dalam kelas terfikir, boleh ke Multi Level Marketing di consider as exercising the Selling Concept.
And, I raised that to the lecturer.
Oh ye, bole buat nota dalam blog ni.

According to the lecturer, the Production Concept started way before the Industrial Revolution.
Masa tu kan machine pun takde, semua pakai manual, so, susah nak produce barang, and kalau produce pun, since it is manual, the quality won't be similar between one product and the other walaupun it's the same product.
Ye la, tangan Ah Chong dengan tangan Muthusamy kan tak sama.
Kebolehan diorang pun lain-lain, jadi macamana nak produce the same quality of product, walaupun menggunakan cara yang sama.
So, masa tu marketers believe people will buy whatever product available in the market, as long as it is cheap, so, they just produce and sell.

Then, bila terjadinya Industrial Revolution, macam-macam kilang, macam-macam machine muncul. So, companies compete with each other.
In order to survive, they believe that if they can produce the best quality, best features of product, customers will buy, although this may incur cost, and not all customers need it actually.
Yang ni la dipanggil Product Concept.
Contoh kalau zaman moden ni, handphone canggih-canggih macam-macam features tu, macam la orang yang beli tu guna semua features yang ada.
Macam saya, last-last call dengan sms + GPS jugak yang utama.
Yang lain-lain tu ada yang saya tak pernah try test pun macamana nak guna.

In the mid 50's, supply started to exceed demand.
When some companies cannot sell their inventories, muncullah the Selling Concept pulak, which the marketers believe customers will not buy unless they are forced to buy.
Masa ni la timbulnya direct selling bagai.

In 1960's, marketers started to realize that in order to sell their product at a profit, they need to satisfy the customers need.
Masa ni la baru the Marketing Concept muncul.
Bila dah tau apa yang customers nak, baru la senang nak jual barang.
Although certain product may need a high cost to produce, but it still can be sold at a higher price, because they are selling the product that customers' want.

Akhirnya baru-baru ni muncullah pulak the Societal Marketing Concept.
In which, marketers started to sell not only products that customers wants, but also products that care on the society's well being.
Tu yang banyak sungguh barang organic la, green la, environmental friendly la sekarang.
Ni semua sebab kepercayaan kepada Societal Marketing Concept la ni.

Tapi, walaupun sesetengah concept ni muncul way before the Industrial Revolution, some marketers still practice it until today.
Not all companies nowadays are using the Marketing Concept or Societal Marketing Concept.
They are still some companies using the Production Concept, Product Concept and Selling Concept.

And that is why I am thinking of MLM as using the Selling Concept.
But then, according to the lecturer, MLM ni sekarang da jadi a very different business plan at all.
Kalau dulu, yang asal-asal macam Tupperware, Amway, they are using MLM, tapi lebih tulus, suci, murni lah berbanding MLM yang lain sekarang ni.
Sebab macam Tupperware ni, they are selling products. They just want to save their cost in terms of outlet, storage and so on.
That's why masa mula-mula muncul, they are using direct selling, but it is single level marketing.
Beberapa tahun lepas kemunculannya baru dia tukar business concept to MLM.
Tetiba teringat party Tupperware yang dibuat oleh makcik-makcik masa saya kecik-kecik dulu.
Tapi kalau kita tengok MLM yang lain sekarang, tak tau la sama ada diorang ni jual product ke, atau making money menggunakan orang?
Cer tengok orang-orang MLM sekarang.
Kalau makcik-makcik party Tupperware dulu, dia betul-betul jual Tupperware kan?
Cuma sambil-sambil tu adalah ayat, kalau jadi ahli boleh dapat harga murah.
Kalau dah jadi ahli, lepas tu jual kat kawan-kawan boleh dapat commission.
Tapi tu pun jarang kita dengar they emphasis on that thing.
Mostly memang nak jual Tupperware la.
(punya la hebat brand equity Tupperware ni sampai hari ni Tipuware  pun kita panggil Tupperware kan? Asal bekas plastik je kita sebut Tupperware).
Tapi cer banding dengan tukang-tukang MLM hari ni.
Contoh terdekat Hai-O la sebab saya dah di approach oleh bukan seorang, tetapi beberapa orang yang join Hai-O.
Diorang akan approach kita bukan untuk jual baju dalam infrared tu, atau untuk jual Bio-Aura.
Diorang akan approach kita untuk join Hai-O, buat pinjaman RM20,000++ and membuat duit daripada the Multi Level Scheme.
Product boleh jual atau tidak itu belakang cerita.
So, kesimpulannya, yes, MLMs are using a selling concept, but since the business model is very different from the normal business, banyak lagi lah yang boleh dikomen di situ.

Wahh..... da pukul 4 lebih, tapi tak ngantuk balik.
Adakah apabila usia semakin meningkat manusia memang akan jadi tak berapa perlukan tido?
Tapi kenapa masa sebelum jadi student dulu hobi saya tido? **musykil** ;-)
